작품 상세
A single-handed Munich double-cased pocket watch from the renowned Kreittmayr watchmaking dynasty Dimensions 52 mm, circa 1680, Weight 106 g, Origin Deutschland Case: Outer and inner case - silver, smooth. Dial: Silver champlevé. Movm.: Fine full plate movement, chain/fusee, three-arm iron balance. This watch was most likely created by Johann II Kreittmayr, a member of the Kreittmayr watch- and clockmaking family (also spelled Kreutmeyer, Khreitmaier, Kraitmayr, Kreutmer, etc.) in Friedberg near Augsburg. He was the son of Johann Georg Kreittmayr, who worked as a watchmaker in Munich. The exact date of Johann II’s birth in Munich is unrecorded; only his date of death (May 10, 1713) is known. In 1684, Johann II Kreittmayr was appointed court watchmaker to Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria, earning 50 talers. In 1690, he secured a permanent position with a salary of 200 gulden. He served “with loyalty the clocks of Bavaria under Elector Max Emanuel.” He competed with Claude Dunod, who was watchmaker at the Munich court from 1678 to 1696, as evidenced by a handwritten letter dated 1663. Documents show Kreittmayr resided in 1702 and 1707 on Äußere Schwabinger Gasse, today’s Theatinerstraße 24. In April 1713, he fell gravely ill and died in Munich on May 10, 1713.
