An ornamental "à toc" quarter repeating verge pocket watch "à quatre couleurs" Case No. 4783, Dimensions 45 mm, circa 1763, Weight 85 g, Origin Frankreich Case: 18 K gold, chased and engraved decoration, central medallion with musical instruments, case maker's punch mark "JC". Dial: Enamel. Movm.: Full plate movement, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, three-arm steel balance. The gold case features a central decoration on the back with various musical instruments worked in relief, surrounded by a garland of rose blossoms and crowned by a ribbon. On the caseback, alongside the maker’s punchmark "JC", are the duty stamp of Jean-Jacques Prévost (1762–1768) and the annual hallmark "Z" of the Paris guild for the years 1763–1764. The movement, featuring a verge escapement, is equipped with an openwork, engraved balance bridge. The plate bears the signature "Fierville à Caen", who, according to Tardy, was a watchmaker working at the Abbey of St. Etienne around 1757. Provenance: Lukas Stolberg collection.
