UTAGAWA KUNISADA (UTAGAWA TOYOKUNI III, 1786-1865) Edo period (1615-1868), early to mid-19th century Nine oban prints of mainly yakusha-e, the majority incomplete sheets from triptychs: the first a yoko-e Genji-e of Sekisho (Evening Glow) from the series Sugata hakkei (Eight Figural Views); the second a yoko-e, yakusha-e of Shiranui monogatari, yohen no zumo (The Tale of Shiranui, Part Four); the third and fourth two tate-e of the onnagata (female-role) actor Segawa Kikunojo V, one in the role of Kumagai's wife Sagami, and the other as the concubine Otame beneath an umbrella in the snow; the fifth and sixth also onnagata respectively, Ogami Kikujiro II and Iwai Kumezaburo; the seventh a tate-e of Iwai Kumesaburo III as Shirai Gonpachi; the eighth and ninth two tate-e of a male and an onnagata; variously published and variously signed, all mounted on card. The smallest: 33.5cm x 22.7cm (9¼in x 8 15/16in); the largest: 26cm x 36.7xm (10¼in x 14 7/16in). (9).
