A SMALL BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN BALUSTER VASE AND COVER Probably Vietnam, possibly Duong province, Chu Dau kilns, circa 15th-16th century. Well-potted, the compressed baluster body gently tapering toward the flat base, with high, rounded shoulders rising to a short neck with subtly incurved rim, fitted with a slightly domed cover topped with a globular finial. The exterior decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a clear white glaze, with an encircling composition of lotus blossoms and stylized leafy stems, framed below by a prominent lappet band with distinctive scrollwork and above by a pointed-petal band and a double-lined rim border. The cover adorned with dotted motifs and additional linear bands. Provenance: From The Sam and Myrna Myers Collection, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012. Condition: Very condition with surface wear and firing-inherent irregularities, including light pitting, scattered dark spots, and some areas of glaze recess. Expected traces of usage to the interior. Few minute chips along the rims and faint surface scratches. Potters, especially those located near the small village of Chu Dau in the Red River Delta, produced thousands of wares for export to regions as far west as Egypt and as far east as Japan.
