Walter Berndt (1899-1979) Cartoonist. Berndt was known for his long-run comic strip, Smitty, which he drew for 50 years. First day of issue postal cover with the Henry Ossawa Tanner commemorative and cachet, with a small sketch of "Smitty", signed.
