[HITLER & THE OCCULT]: DARRE RICHARD WALTHER (1895-1953) German Reichsminister of Food & Agriculture 1933-42, the seventh most senior commander in the Schutzstaffel (SS). Printed Note signed, R Walther Darre, on one side of a correspondence card, Berlin, 1935, to [SS Oberfuhrer Weissthor], in German. The printed text reads, in full, 'I was delighted to receive your good wishes for the New Year. I thank you sincerely for them, and reciprocate them warmly. Heil Hitler!' Signed by Darre in black fountain pen ink at the foot in his capacity as Reichsbauernfuhrer. Accompanied by the original envelope. Together with a T.L.S., R Walther Darre, one page, 4to, Berlin, 16th July 1936, to [SS Oberfuhrer Weissthor] 'Lieber und sehr verehrter Herr Oberst!', in German. Darre writes, in part, 'I enclose several representations of the coat of arms (no longer present) and should be grateful if you would let me know which you like best of these drafts, or whether one could combine two of them'. With a portion of the upper left corner of the letter neatly cut away and with a neat split to one fold, only very slightly affecting a few words of text, but not the signature. Two letters with interesting association. G to VG, 2 Karl Maria Wiligut (1866-1946) German Occultist who joined the Schutzstaffel (SS) under the pseudonym Karl Maria Weissthor in 1933. Weissthor was possibly the oddest member & most strange personality of Adolf Hitler's entourage, and was labelled 'Himmler's Rasputin'. The Austrian-born Occultist became a member of the SS after having been introduced to Heinrich Himmler and the two soon became firm friends. Weissthor claimed to be the last warlock or magician of an order dating back to the lost continent of Atlantis, and Himmler never tired of listening to Weissthor's stories of the hidden history of Atlantis as revealed in his visions. He was responsible for sending scores of Nazi agents around the world on a quest for magical artifacts and also designed the dreaded SS Totenkopf ring and hat badge, as well as the runic symbols used on black SS uniforms and flags.
