London, November 10 (?), 1904. To a gentleman expressing lukewarm appreciation for a march submitted for publication. In fine condition. VIEUXTEMPS, HENRI. (1820-1881). Belgian violinist and composer. One of the outstanding violinists of the 19th century and exponent of the French-Belgian school of performing. CS. (“H. Vieuxtemps.”). 1p. 32mo. Chicago, December 23, 1870. Vieuxtemps performed on a 1741 Guarneri considered one of the luthier’s finest pieces. Modern virtuosi like Menuhin, Perlman and Zukerman have played it. It is currently used by Anne Akiko Meyers. In fine condition, mounted to a larger sheet. VOLPE, ARNOLD. (1869-1940). Russian-born, American violinist and conductor; protégé of Anton Rubinstein and student (like Heifetz) of Leopold Auer. He was the first conductor of the Lewisohn Stadium orchestra and one of the founders od the Miami Symphony Orchestra. ALS. (“Arnold Volpe”). 2pp. 8vo. On two sheets of paper. New York, August 19, 1920. To (Louis) Clement of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, praising the orchestra and commenting on the qualifications of a possible young conductor. In fine condition. WILHELMJ, AUGUST. (1845-1908). German violinist and teacher. Earning the praise of Franz Liszt, the tutelage of Ferdinand David and the friendship of Richard Wagner, Wilhelmj was one of the most popular and highly regarded performers of his day. CS on a card.. (“August Wilhelmj”). 1p. 32mo. London, 1905. Wilhelmj played a 1725 Stradivarius, which is currently owned by the Nippon Music Foundation. In excellent condition. WIRTH, EMANUEL. (1842-1923). Czech-born, German violinist and violist; member of the famous Joachim Quartet. APCS. (“Em Wirth”). 1p. Oblong 8vo. (Berlin, March 1, 1880). To a singer named Wilhelm Sachse and mentioning a rehearsal for concert by German composer and conductor, Woldemar Bargiel (1828-1897). In fine condition; some mounting traces along the left edge. YSAYE, EUGENE. (1858-1931). Belgian violinist and composer. CS. (“E. Ysaye”). 1p. Small 32mo N.p., 1903.
