작품 상세
Original 1923 silver gelatin photograph of Stan Laurel, measuring approximately 7" x 9", signed and inscribed in black fountain pen: "To Mr. & Mrs. Hunley, With Best Wishes, Sincerely Yours, Stan Laurel. April 1923." Laurel is pictured in comedic costume wearing a cap labeled “Pathé Comedies,” pointing toward the camera with a wide grin. The photograph bears an embossed studio credit: "Hal Roach Studios, Culver City, California." This image dates to Laurel's solo film career prior to the formation of the Laurel and Hardy duo. Based on costume and date, it may correspond to one of his early Hal Roach shorts produced for Pathé in 1923, possibly "The Handy Man," though definitive attribution to a specific film is unconfirmed. Provenance: Item(s) in this lot were part of the personal archives of Alaska Nellie (Nellie Neal Lawing), a prominent early 20th-century Alaskan wilderness guide, hunter, and provider of meals to laborers constructing the Alaska Railroad. Nellie maintained a friendship with silent film actress Alice Calhoun (1900–1966), active between 1919 and 1929. As a result of this connection, Nellie acquired a number of Hollywood-adjacent photographs and signed items. Additional photographs and autographs in the collection were obtained during Nellie’s own travels in Alaska, where she encountered a wide range of notable personalities. The complete archive was later donated to the Resurrection Bay Historical Society (RBHS) in Seward, Alaska. Condition Fair condition. The photograph exhibits handling wear, surface creasing, and a puncture mark near the top center. A horizontal tear is present along the left edge, and the lower-left corner is chipped. General wear along the edges and corners is visible throughout. Signature Authenticity: The signature(s) on this item have been compared to verified examples and are believed to be authentic.
