A group of three original 19th-century American documents spanning the Civil War through the postwar frontier West. Includes:  1864 Civil War Affidavit – Printed and manuscript affidavit filed in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, titled “Affidavit in Case of a Mother.” The mother certifies her dependency on her son who served in Company D, 27th Wisconsin Infantry. Dated May 19, 1864. Signed by three witnesses and a Justice of the Peace. Includes a 5¢ U.S. revenue stamp affixed and canceled; a complete and correct example as originally submitted. 1875 Court Summons – Lycoming County, Pennsylvania Partly printed summons addressed to multiple defendants, with manuscript entries and docketing. Signed on the reverse by both the deputy and the sheriff. Features a County of Lycoming blind-embossed seal. 1880s Sheriff’s Summons – Storey County, Nevada (Virginia City) Unused pre-printed form from the Office of the Sheriff in Storey County, Nevada. Entirely blank and unissued — a preserved artifact from Virginia City’s frontier legal offices during the silver mining boom.
