Significant John Riggins autographed professional model shoulder pads as worn in Super Bowl XVII c.1980s (Super Bowl MVP and Championship Season). Pair of original Gerry Cosby "Mr. Tops" model shoulder pads used by John Riggins including within Washington's Super Bowl XVII championship in which he was named Most Valuable Player. Shoulder pads display proper Cosby manufacturer's stampings along with size XL indicator and exhibit evident use including soiling, toning, and appropriate noted wear to the top of shoulder areas from impact. Riggins has signed the front in gold paint pen, "John Riggins I wore these in SB XVII". Vintage "44" uniform number written on one of the canvas support straps. Lacings in place are likely replacements and the lot includes portions of a period leather belt size strap and metal buckle. Highly desirable equipment piece relating to one of the most iconic individual performances in Super Bowl history that undoubtedly absorbed countless bruising hits from the Miami Dolphins defense.
