Significant 1983 John Riggins NFL Player of the Year Bert Bell Award. Prestigious honor as bestowed each season to the NFL Player of the Year as voted by team owners, league personnel, coaches, and the media. Past recipients have included Johnny Unitas, Jim Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Marino, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, and a host of others whom rank among the greatest to have played. Riggins earned the honor for his outstanding 1983 season which culminated with a Super Bowl XVII MVP award. Engraved metal placard at base front reads in full, "The Bert Bell Memorial Award John Riggins Washington Redskins Presented by The Maxwell Football Club Philadelphia, PA 1983." Large bronze figural with distressed patination of Bert Bell stands atop the square wooden base to full height of 16" tall. Slight age patination to the engraved placard and the wooden plinth base has two surface fissures from natural aging mentioned for accuracy.
