Besides Dan Flavin, James Turrell and Richard Serra, Sonnier was among the artists who extended the concept of sculpture. Condition: The metal base and the acrylic glass show slight signs of use. Otherwise good overall condition. The glass plate needs to be mounted. During a short-term test, the light installation was functional, but long-term functionality cannot be guaranteed. The dimensions are c. 62 cm x 43.0 cm x 11 cm. Keith Sonnier (born 1941) Born in Louisiana, USA, Keith Sonnier studied art and anthropology at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. Then he sojourned for a short time in Paris and dedicated himself to painting. In 1966, he completed his master's degree at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Since the late 1960s, Sonnier worked with neon lights, glass and everyday materials such as wire, aluminum, lead and fat. In 1969, he held his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Ricke in Cologne. Since 1970, Sonnier has been using film and video in his work. Keith Sonnier has exhibited at the Venice Biennial and repeatedly at the documenta. Works by him are part of the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, among others. One of his best-known projects is the 1.2 kilometer-long neon artwork ‘Lichtweg’ at Munich Airport. The artist lives and works in New York City.
