Bougerie, Paris (not shown) "Berthon...produced about 60 [decorative panels]...in contrast to his handful of posters....This is his most famous lithograph, a portrait of Sarah Bernhardt in the title role of ?La Princesse Lointaine' (?The Faraway Princess') which she first played in 1894. In this design Berthon transformed her costume tiara with its flowery jeweled garland into real irises framing her idealized face" (Gold, p. 120).
