C-Print on Fujicolor Archive Paper, mounted on acrylic glass USA, 2003 David LaChapelle (born 1963) - US-American Photographer In white wooden frame Sheet size: 54.4 x 51 cm Very good condition The hyper realistic aesthetic that is typical for David LaChapelle and which is often associated with social criticism decisively shaped contemporary photography; the auction record for a large-format motif of Marilyn is currently set at €25,700 This photograph by the American photographer is a paraphrase of the famous Marilyn portraits by pop artist Andy Warhol. As a model for LaChapelle served Amanda Lapore, an American model and transsexual icon who the photographer had met in a bar in Manhattan and who was regarded as his muse. LaChapelle created several color versions of the motif. The C-Print was developed on Fujicolor Archive paper and mounted on verso on acrylic glass. The print is in very good condition, the acrylic glass plate is fixedly mounted on verso to the frame back board. The frame is in good condition with minor signs of age and wear. The image size is equal to the sheet size of 54.4 x 51 cm. The framed dimensions are 59 x 56 cm. David LaChapelle (born 1963) The American photographer was born in Fairfield in the State of Connecticut. A photo he took from his mother on vacation when he was six years old, awakened his fascination for photography. He studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and in New York at the Arts Student League and the School of Visual Arts. Andy Warhol offered him his first professional job: Taking Photographs for his 'Interview Magazine'. From 1987 on LaChapelle was in demand as photographer for magazines such as Vanity Fair, Vogue and Rolling Stone. Many celebrities were photographed by him. In 2006 LaChapelle decided to reduce his commercial activity and to focus again more on fine-art works. His works have been shown in many international exhibitions and honored with awards and prizes.
