The 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, held during the Great Depression, were the first Games on the U.S. West Coast and drew about 1,300 athletes from 37 nations. To cut costs, events were centralized at the newly built Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and the Games introduced the first Olympic Village to house male athletes.
