HERMANN GRAF (1912 - 1988) Luftwaffe World War II fighter ace, served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts and credited with 212 victories, 202 of which were on the Eastern Front. First to achieve 200 aerial victories in more than 830 sorties. Holder of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. Good content T.Ms.S., 1p. 6 x 4 in., Feb. 22, 1944, a blanket postcard sent towards individuals who sent Graf unimportant mail during the end of the war. In full: 'The mail reaching me has assumed such a volume that I can no longer deal with letters individually without neglecting my service duties. I must, therefore, ask you to shelve your requests, and to make do with my good wishes in this present form. Our work and our commitment to victory for the freedom and the future of Great Germany, our fatherland, take precedence over all private wishes and minor matters. Heil Hitler!' Graf signs at the conclusion in pencil. The verso bears the hand-inscribed address of a 'Bartel Redder' in Aachen, likely penned by an aide, with a Feldpost hand-cancel at lower-left. Light spots of foxing, else fine. Sold with a translation.
