World War II 1943 General Electric poster, titled âPick Out the Biggest One and Fire!', featuring an image of United States Navy USN Captain Edward J. Moran. The title of this poster is a quote from Moran while in command of the U.S.S. Boise during the Battle of Cape Esperance. The bottom black band of the poster gives a brief description surrounding the command from Moran: Capt. Edward J. "Mike" Moran, commanding the U.S.S. Boise off the Solomons, received the report â "Five Jap ships in sight sir" Without hesitation, Moran replied, "Pick out the biggest one and fire!" before dawn, the Boise had sunk SIX Jap ships." Moran would later be awarded the Navy Cross for his inspirational leadership during this battle. Poster measures 23.25" x 30.25". GEL - 825-1 printed on the top right corner and "Copyright, 1943 General Electric Co." in the bottom right corner. Some abrasions on the poster, otherwise very good - excellent condition.
