This confederate canteen is 8" diameter and 2.5"W. The wood body may be cedar and is very dried out and the sides may have been sanded. The bands show much rust, some pitting, are a little loose and slide around some. One side has crude 3 letter initials DMA underlined and something else written underneath. Has old cork stopper at the opening. Nice, real Confederate canteen example.
