Ca. AD 100- 300 An iron gladio of a bifacial design bearing a shallow midrib, sharp edges, and a pointed tip. Situated along the tang is a hand guard with an incised triangle, its original carved bone decorated handle grip, an adjustable ringlet with a sharp central carnation, and an almost spherical-shaped pommel with incised circles. Very rare, museum quality gladius! Size: 500mm x 60mm; Weight: g. Private UK collection; previously acquired on the German art market in the 1990s.
