A Middle Eastern saif, ca. 19th century. Origin: Najd or Hejaz region, Arabian Peninsula. Curved, single-edged steel blade. Characteristic L-shaped grip often made of horn, wood, or metal, with simple geometric decoration. Crossguard with bulbous quillons, a common form in Arabian hilts. Retains a chain knuckle guard, a hallmark of ceremonial saifs from the region. Scabbard is decorated in stamped and chased silver mounts. Covered in tooled leather, particularly the lower section, with classic Islamic geometric and star motifs. Complete with original red-and-gold sword knot tassels.
