작품 상세
A fine Ottoman shamshir with a deeply curved single-edged wootz steel blade, exhibiting Wootz watered patter throughout. The blade of slender form tapers elegantly to a sharp point and retains an even curvature typical of 19th-century Turkish cavalry and officer swords. The pistol-grip form hilt is fitted with carved scales, secured with decorative pins including a rosette stud, mounted to a gilt-brass crossguard with elongated quillons terminating in faceted knop ends. The guard and tang junction displays honest wear and patina consistent with age and handling. The sword retains its original scabbard, shagreen leather-covered over a wooden core, mounted with finely chased and engraved silver fittings. The locket and chape are decorated with repeating oval and foliate motifs arranged in panels, bordered by beaded edges, and fitted with two suspension rings for wear at the belt. The silver mounts display elaborate hand engraving characteristic of Ottoman metalwork of the period and show an attractive, undisturbed patina. Ottoman Empire, 19th century.
