Very good condition Estimate: $7,000-$9,000 John Grillo (American, 1917-2014) A pioneer of Abstract Expressionism, John Grillo worked alongside Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still at the California School of Fine Arts to found the New York School movement. Grillo’s first solo exhibition was held in Berkeley, CA at Daliel Gallery in 1947, with his second held the following year at New York’s Artists’ Gallery. In 1953, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metroplitan Museum of Art both showcased his work. Over the course of his career, Grillo had more than 80 solo and 100 group shows. His paintings, sculptures and lithographs can be found in the public collections at the Norfolk Museum in Virginia, the Los Angeles County Museum, Dartmouth College, and the Portland Museum, among others.
