작품 상세

Lawrence Kupferman (American, 1909-1982) untitled watercolor and ink on paper depicting the facades of houses and semi abstract figures, signed to the lower right hand corner, matted and framed under glass. Frame measures 30-1/2" in height by 23-1/4" in width by 2" in depth, the sight image measures 21" in height by 15" in width. In overall good condition with frame being slightly loose, all measurements are approximate. It is our recommendation that all lots be examined in person by prospective bidders or by a trusted expert they have asked to advise on the purchase. During the 1930s, Lawrence Edward Kupferman was employed by the Works Progress Administration, making a series of etchings and dry points, mostly of the facades of houses. His style changed completely in the 1940s, becoming first political and expressionist, and later abstract expressionist. In very recent years he had returned to making prints of buildings in his first manner. As an educator, he served as chairman of the department of painting at the Massachusetts College of Arts.
