Attributed to Ramkinkar Baij, Indian, 1906 to 1980, mixed media painting on canvas depicting a portrait of a sleeping animal, probably a dog. Signed lower left. Ramkinkar Baij was an Indian sculptor and painter, one of the pioneers of modern Indian sculpture and a key figure of Contextual Modernism. Besides being an early modernist of Indian art, he was an iconic sculptor, painter and graphic artist. RamkinkarBaije trained at Kala Bhavana, the art school at Rabindranath Tagores Shantiniketan and was under the guidance of Nandalal Bose.
