In very good condition Erläuterungen / Comments Die "Merzzeichnung 331 - Goldkaro" aus dem Jahr 1921 ist ein prägnantes Beispiel für Kurt Schwitters' konsequente Weiterentwicklung der Collagekunst zur autonomen Bildform. Die Komposition kombiniert verschiedenfarbige Papiere, Druckschnipsel und im Zentrum das namensgebende goldene "Karo" (Quadrat) zu einer ausgewogenen, spannungsvollen Bildarchitektur. Montiert sind die Papiere auf eine Zeitungsseite des Berliner Börsen-Couriers Nr. 564. Im Zentrum der Arbeit steht das Verhältnis von Struktur und Zufall. Das goldene Karo, vermutlich einem Luxuspapier oder Verpackungsmaterial entnommen, ist nicht bloss ein dekoratives Element, sondern fungiert als ästhetischer Anker, der die umgebenden Formen und Texturen rhythmisiert. Die gezielte Platzierung verweist auf Schwitters’ intensives Interesse an bildnerischer Ordnung jenseits des blossen Zufallsprinzips der Dada-Collage. Schwitters erhob das scheinbar Banale zur Kunst, ohne es zu verfremden, die Teile erhöhten die Komposition durch eine neue Kontextualisierung. Formal lassen sich in "Goldkaro" konstruktivistische Einflüsse erkennen, etwa im geometrischen Aufbau oder in der klaren Flächenorganisation. Es ist eine visuelle Partitur, die zugleich spielerisch, empfindsam und präzise wirkt. Mit dieser Merzzeichnung positioniert sich Schwitters einmal mehr jenseits traditioneller Gattungen zwischen Collage, Malerei, Graphik und Objektkunst. The 'Merzzeichnung 331 - Goldkaro' from 1921 is a striking example of Kurt Schwitters' consistent development of collage art into an autonomous pictorial form. The composition combines differently coloured papers and printed snippets centred around the eponymous golden 'Karo' (square) into a balanced, tension-filled pictorial architecture. The papers are mounted on a newspaper page from the Berliner Börsen-Courier no. 564. The relationship between structure and chance lies at the heart of the work. The golden square, probably sourced from luxury paper or packaging material, serves as more than just a decorative element; it functions as an aesthetic anchor, providing rhythm to the surrounding forms and textures. Its deliberate placement points to Schwitters' intense interest in pictorial order beyond the mere principle of chance in Dada collage. His Merz pictures are carefully composed and testify to a fine sense for colour, formal balance and material variety. 'Goldkaro' is an expression of Schwitters' materialist aesthetic, in which everyday objects - whether worthless or shiny - are transformed into a new poetic system. Schwitters elevated the seemingly banal to the status of art without alienating it; the individual elements enhance the composition through a new contextualisation. Formally, 'Goldkaro' shows constructivist influences, for example in the geometric structure or in the clear organisation of the surfaces. It is a visual score that appears at once playful, sensitive and precise. With this Merz drawing, Schwitters once again positions himself beyond traditional genres, between collage, painting, graphic art and object art.
