Mixed media. Dimensions: 90 × 25 × 20 cm. Composite figure known as a Fidji or Feejee mermaid, created by combining the torso of a small mammal with a fish tail, designed to resemble a mythological creature. This type of object was especially popular during the 18th and 19th centuries in cabinets of curiosities, traveling museums, and itinerant exhibitions, where it fueled a fascination with the exotic, natural history, and the boundary between science and fiction.
