Probably Mandan – c. 1830-1840 Made of young bison hide cut into a semicircle, dyed red-brown. The attached collar is sewn with sinew (sinew). It is decorated with a teardrop pattern, as well as a small tail with black hair. The bottom of the coat is decorated with two circular patterns, similar to that of the collar. These patterns are made up of alternating skins with brown and light fur, sewn with sinew. The edges of the coat and the collar are decorated with repoussé patterns. The sides of the collar are decorated with a few fringes of braided skin. Inside, it is fitted with two straps of skin to attach the coat around the neck. Presence of an ivory or horn button decorated at the notch. Half-circumference: 152.5 cm - Length (from the bottom to the unfolded collar with the tail): 160 cm. Il est orné d’un motif en goutte d’eau, ainsi que d’une petite queue à poils noirs. Le bas du manteau est orné de deux motifs circulaires, similaires à celui du col. Ces motifs sont constitués d’alternance de peaux avec fourrure brune et claire, cousues au sinew. Les bords du manteau et du col sont décorés de motifs repoussés. Les flancs du col sont ornés de quelques franges de peau tressée. À l’intérieur, il est muni de deux lanières de peau permettant d’attacher le manteau autour du cou. Présence d’un bouton d’ivoire ou de corne ornementé à l’entaille. Demi-circonférence : 152,5 cm - Longueur (du bas au col déplié́ avec la queue) : 160 cm. Bon état - Pièce rare, probablement unique.
