A fine mask, crafted by the highly regarded contemporary artist Ayap'run Jack Abraham (b.1956), of Aleut and Yup'ik descent. These masks were traditionally created by shamans or under their direction for use in storytelling, rituals, and ceremonial dances held during the long Alaskan winter in the qasgiq (communal men's house). Jack's works are in the permanent collection of the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, Doyon Native Corporation, Smithsonian Institute, Yugatravik Museum, Yukon Kuskokwim Health Center, and the Alaska Native Medical Center. Measures approximately 19" x 2.5" x 20.5" tall.
