The bust portrait depicts a beautiful odalisque in the profile with a long and flowing mane and a red headdress. The delicate garment is slightly slipped on the chest and enhances the painting with a subtle erotic component. The odalisque was originally a servant of the Sultan's harem in the Ottoman Empire. In 19th century painting, the subject was often visited due to a strong interest in Orientalism. The porcelain plaque bears the signature stamp 'Firenze' under a stylized lily, the iron red lettering 'Odaliske / a la Asti' and an old label with the number '112/24271' on the reverse. It is set in the original gilt and carved wooden frame with a stand. It is in very good condition with minor signs of wear to the reverse. The frame shows some losses.
