Majolica, white engobe, green glaze, black and dark blue slipware painting Großherzogliche Majolikamanufaktur Karlsruhe, established 1901, c. 1920 Design: Max Laeuger (1864-1952) – German artist, garden architect and author Underneath impressed manufaturer's mark as well as '1876, PROF. LÄUGER Baden' and incised 'Dj' Exterior revolving decorated with stylized leafage in black and blue slipware painting on a yellow-green ground Height: c. 21.5 cm; diameter: c. 39 cm Condition: The bowl is in good condition consitent with age showing usual traces of usage and age-related craquelure. Max Laeuger (1864 – 1952) Max Laeuger was born 30.09.1864 in Lörrach and died ibidem on 12.12.1952. He studied at the art college in Karlsruhe from 1881 until 1884 where he later became a teaching assistant. In 1898 he became professor for interior architecture and garden art. He was professor for figure drawing and decoration at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, where he later taught architecture. He was simultaneously engaged as head of the clay works in Kandern from 1897-1914 and he was an employee of Majolika manufactory in Karlsruhe from 1921 until 1929.
