CHENG HAW CHIEN, DR. 郑浩千 博士 b. Penang, 1948 CALLIGRAPHY IN RUNNING SCRIPT 行草书 Signed, inscribed and sealed (lower left) Ink on paper, hanging scroll 66 cm x 33 cm Dr. Cheng Haw Chien is an important Malaysian Chinese Lingnan-school artist and calligrapher in Malaysia. He was the Principal of the Central Academy of Art, Kuala Lumpur and an Art Appraisal Committee Member of the National Art Gallery, Malaysia. Dr. Cheng is currently the President of the Central Research Academy of Art in Kuala Lumpur and the Lifelong Advisor to Ningbo Art Museum, China. After secondary education, Dr. Cheng continued his studies in Taiwan and Hong Kong, where he refined his artistic skills under the guidance of several eminent masters, including Zhao Shao’ang and Zhang Daqian. Dr. Cheng has been conferred a master's degree in the history of fine art by Summit University, Louisiana, and doctorate degree by St. George University, United Kingdom, for his achievement in the research field. In 1994, he held a solo exhibition at The National China Art Gallery in Beijing at the joint-invitation of Chinese Artists Association, Beijing Painting Institute and more. He was also appointed as the Vice Chairman of the International Calligraphy Association; Chairman of International Calligraphy Association, Malaysia; Chairman of the Malaysian Painting Calligraphy Association in the same year. Between 2006 and 2009, Dr. Cheng Haw-Chien embarked on a world tour and held solo exhibitions actively at places such as the Penang State Gallery (Malaysia), Changshu Art Museum (China), Fujian Art Museum (China) and Ning Bo Art Museum (China). In 2010, the National Art Gallery, Malaysia hosted his solo exhibition - “The Art World of Cheng Haw Chien” and published a hard-backed painting catalogue with the same title. 郑浩千博士是著名的马来西亚华裔岭南派书画家，也是英国圣乔治大学的美术史博士。郑博士曾任马来西亚中央艺术学院的院长以及大马国家画廊艺术品评估鉴定委员。如今，他现为大马中央艺术研究院院长和宁波美术馆终身艺术顾问。 中学毕业后，郑博士便前往台湾和香港深造，有幸向艺术大师如赵少昂、张大千等人学习。1994年，他被委任为国际书法联盟副会长、马来西亚国际书法联盟会会长、马来西亚书画总会会长和吉隆坡国际水墨画研讨会主席。同年，他被中国对外文化交流协会、中国美术馆、中国美术家协会、中国画研究院、徐悲鸿纪念馆、北京画院等八大单位特邀，在北京中国美术馆举办个人画展。 2006至2008年间，郑博士积极地在大马槟城博物院画廊、中国常熟美术馆、中国福建省博物馆、宁波美术馆等地举办个人画展。2010年，大马国家画廊主办了 “浩水千山 – 郑浩千的艺术世界” 作品展，并出版了同名的硬皮画册。 Reference: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/designart/chineseart/cheng/htmls/bio.htm http://www.theedgegalerie.com/artist/cheng-haw-chien-prof
