Light wear and tear. * Palissy pottery is a 19th-century term for ceramics made in the style of the famous French potter Bernard Palissy (c. 1510–1590), who familiarly referred to his works as "rustic" ("rustic style"). Therefore, they are also known as "rustic pottery". Palisi's unique style, made of polychrome lead glazed pottery, in a gloomy color palette in earthy tones, using naturalistic scenes of plants and animals created from life, was greatly emulated by other potters both in his lifetime and especially in the 19th century. In this revival, pottery in the style of Palissy was produced by Charles-Jean Aviseau of Tour, who rediscovered the techniques of Palissy in 1843, his relatives the Landai family of Tour, Georges Paul of Paris, Maurice and Barbizont.
