Richard Satava (American, b. 1953) American Jellyfish Paperweight Art glass Late 20th century Measurements 7 5/8 in. high x 3 3/4 in. diameter A vertically oriented art glass paperweight depicting a suspended jellyfish encased within clear glass. The domed bell is rendered in warm amber and golden tones, with fine trailing tentacles drawn downward in delicate, sinuous strands. Subtle internal bubbles and layered coloration create depth and a floating, lifelike effect within the transparent form. Numbered on the underside 3376-03. Maker Bio Richard Satava is an American studio glass artist born in 1953, widely recognized for his highly detailed glass sculptures of marine life, particularly jellyfish. Working primarily in California, Satava has been producing these forms since the 1970s, combining scientific observation with refined glassworking techniques to achieve realistic suspended compositions.
