Late 19th C. French Glass & Enamel Gilt Metal Casket Measurements: 5 in" H x 5 1/4" W x 3 1/2" D Rectangular painted glass casket with hinged lid, raised on four gilt metal ball feet with ringed mounts. The black glass panels are finely decorated with grisaille-style floral garlands and borders, centered by white blossoms connected by trailing stems. The lid features a detailed hand-painted floral composition in shades of white and gray, accented with small polychrome flowers and a perched bird rendered in soft yellow, blue, and red tones. Gilt metal mounts frame the lid and edges, incorporating a central escutcheon and swing handles at the sides. The interior is lined in red velvet, visible through the translucent glass panels. The refined painting, restrained palette, and elegant mounts are characteristic of late 19th-century French decorative glasswork. Condition is fair with some cracks along the upper lip.
