STAUNTON, VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE CANNERS, LOT OF THREE, salt-glazed, each approximately half-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with grooved wax-seal rim, and Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "I. H. PLECKER. / STAUNTON, VA." with arrow between, and two horizontal spearpoints. Circa 1870. 8 1/8" HOA. Catalogue Note: Jacob Howard Plecker was born in Augusta County in 1820. During the Civil War, he served in the Confederate Army in the 62nd Regiment, Virginia Mounted Infantry. Plecker was listed on the 1860 and 1870 census records as a "merchant". He died in 1890 and was buried in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
