Dresser' and 'H& H' with eagle, as well as numbered 2223 Dimensions: 14 x 20 x 16.5 cm Non-restored, original condition Provenance: Private collection, Great Britain Great example of Christopher Dresser's avantgard Design The present bonbon dish was designed by Christopher Dresser between 1878 and 1881, and manufactured by Hukin & Heath in Birmingham. The bonbon dish consists of two well-shaped shells, the outer longitudinal edges of which are curved inwards. The central circular handle is wrapped with cane. The bonbon dish is marked on the underside, 'Designed by Dr C. Dresser' and 'H& H' with eagle, as well as numbered 2223. It is in a non-restored, original condition with a light patina of age and small oxidations marks. A part of the cane is missing. The dimensions of the bonbon dish is 14 x 20 x 16.5 cm. Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) As the son of an English family Christopher Dresser was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1834. At the age of 13 he began to study at the 'Government School of Design' in London. Dresser was strongly influenced by the leading design reformers Richard Redgrave (1804-1888), Henry Cole (1808-1882), Owen Jones (1809-1874) and Matthew Digby Wyatt (1820-1877) as well as botanical studies and Japanese art. The artist aimed to create industrial design that was affordable, functional, decorative and easy to reproduce. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
