In fine condition Erläuterungen / Comments Ab 1953 wurde Jacqueline Roque, die zuvor als Keramikverkäuferin bei Madoura gearbeitet hatte, Picassos neue Lebensgefährtin. Er schuf in der Folge zahlreiche Porträts seiner neuen Muse und späteren Ehefrau. Auch in der vorliegenden Zeichnung trägt die nackte Frau die Züge von Jacqueline. Der maskierte Amor kann als Selbstbildnis Picassos gelesen werden. Die Maske trägt groteske Züge. Wollte der Künstler damit die Amour fou der beiden Liebenden, die ein Altersunterschied von 46 Jahren trennte, zelebrieren? Die Maske ist ein klassisches Symbol für Verstellung und Geheimnis und verweist auf die Ambivalenzen der Liebe zwischen Offenbarung und Verbergen, Nähe und Distanz. Durch den Titel "L'Amour masqué" wird diese Bedeutungsebene explizit gemacht. Die Liebe ist ein Spiel mit Identitäten, ein verborgenes und zugleich verletzliches Phänomen. Das in reduziertem Tuschestrich geschaffene Blatt ist ein eindrückliches Beispiel dafür, wie Picasso mit einfachen graphischen Mitteln eine kraftvolle Komposition zu schaffen vermag. From 1953, Jacqueline Roque, who had previously worked as a ceramics saleswoman at Madoura, became Picasso's new companion. He subsequently created numerous portraits of his new muse and later wife. In the present drawing as well, the naked woman bears the features of Jacqueline. The masked Cupid can be read as a self-portrait of Picasso. The mask has grotesque features. Did the artist wish to celebrate the 'amour fou' of the two lovers, who were separated by an age difference of 46 years? The mask is a classic symbol of disguise and mystery and points to the ambivalences of love between revelation and concealment, closeness and distance.
