It is mounted on a flat, black marble plinth and shows a young scything farmer. The total weight laid on the left foot, he is swinging the scythe with both hands. Distinctive facial expression and steely body contours provide the young man with a devoted appearance. The base of the bronze sculpture is signed with 'Iffland' and marked 'M. & S.'. The bronze is in good condition, only the mount of the scythe to the upper hand is damaged. The marble plinth shows some dents. The dimensions including the pedestal are 31 cm (height) x 12.5 (width) x 18 cm (depth). Franz Iffland (1862-1935) The Berlin sculptor and painter Franz Iffland created portrait busts and bronze figures with mostly mythological or genre-like content. He participated in 1886, 1888, 1890 and 1892 to the exhibitions of the Royal Academy of Arts. In 1893 some of his works were presented in the Great Art Exhibition in Berlin.
