Bronze, with dark-brown and partially gold patina, polished; posthumous cast France, 2012 Lynn Russell Chadwick (1914-2003) - British artist and sculptor Signed in the cast on the side 'Chadwick' Underneath numbered with the number '209/350' as well as marked with the foundry stamp 'Landowsik Fondeur', year of origin '2012' Height: 25.2 cm Very good condition Chadwick is one of the leading figures of British sculpture of the post-war era; the auction record for a bronze by Lynn Chadwick is currently set at around €1,300,000 at international auctions This bronze candlestick was made in 2012 by the French foundry Landowski Fondeur after the design by Lynn Chadwick from 1983. Above three pointed feet rises a strictly geometrical strung-out shape ending in a trapedozial spout. The horizontal plane holds the whole for the candle. On the side the bronze is inscribed Chadwick'. Underneath the exemplar number '209/350', the foundry stamp 'Landowsik Fondeur', the year of origin '2012' and the stamp 'Artcurial' are visible. The condition of the candlestick is very good, with minimal signs of age and wear. The height is 25.2 cm. Lynn Russell Chadwick (1914-2003) Lynn Russell Chadwick began his artistic education as architectural draftsman and he also created drawings, watercolors and oil paintings. In the forties, he began creating mobile sculptures of iron, which were to become the focus of his work. The mobiles by Alexander Calder served as a great inspiration for the artist. In the Second World War, he served as a marine. In 1952, he exhibited together with Eduardo Paolozzi, Bernard Meadows and Reg Butler at the Venice Biennale. There he was awarded the International Prize of Sculpture in 1956. He was honored with The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France. Works of his are in the possession of international collections, such as the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio, MoMA New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, Peggy Guggenheim Collection Venice, Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Rome, National galleries of Scotland, Victoria and Albert Museum and in Royal Academy of Arts London.
