Terracotta, black patina Italy, 1933 Renato Bertelli (1900-1974) - Italian sculptor, representative of Futurism Signed at the base ‘Bertelli R.AXI’ One out of several copies Height: 30 cm Good Condition Futuristic sculpture showing the continuous profile Mussolini's, the former ‘Duce’; his terracotta sculptures fetch up to €27,600 in the international auction market In the 1930s Bertelli created the so-called continuous profile of Mussolini, which is characterized by the centrifugal dynamic execution, representing the artist's interest for the futurism as it was pursued by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti or Ernesto Michahelles Thayaht. Condition: The sculpture is in good condition with only slight signs of wear. The patina is partially lightly worn, otherwise generally of very good impression. It measures 30 cm in height. Renato Bertelli (1900-1974) The Italian sculptor Renato Bertelli was born in Lastra a Signa near Florence in 1900. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence under Domenico Trentacoste. He gained first awareness by participating at the Esposition Primaverile in 1922, and about 10 years later he became well known with the bust representing the profile of Mussolini, which has been widely reproduced in different sizes and materials after its official recognition. A copy of this sculpture is nowadays to be found in the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, another one in the Imperial War Museum in London.
