Bronze, with golden brown patina and golden paint Germany, 2006 Emil Cimiotti (b. 1927) – German sculptor and important representative of the Art Informel Signed with monogram at the side ‘Ci’ Mounted on a steel base Dimensions: 9.5 x 35 x 13 cm Very good Condition Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 1,500 Euro Emil Cimiotti’s artistic approach is deeply inspired by the Art Informel. In his works he seems to gradually dissolve the closed form. Abstraction and figuration emphasize the balance between spontaneity and control. In this respect, the present lying figure turns out to be a particularly impressive example of Cimiotti’s artistic output. Condition: The bronze is in very good overall condition. The surface only shows a few residues from the production process. The sculpture is mounted on a steel base and measures 9.5 x 35 x 13 cm. Emil Cimiotti (b. 1927) Emil Cimiotti was born in Göttingen and began his artistic training with an apprenticeship as a stonemason. He enrolled at the Kunstakademie in Stuttgart in 1949 and attended the class of Otto Braun. In Paris he had influential encounters with Brancusi, Le Corbusier and Fernand Léger. His works were first exhibited in 1956. But although the critics were not only supportive, he was promptly awarded the art prize ‘junger westen 57’ in the following year. A grant from the Villa Massimo in Rome, his participation at the 29th Venice Biennale as well as his submissions to the documenta II in Kassel are further milestones of his impressive international career. In 1963 Cimiotti was one of the founding members of the Kunsthochschule Braunschweig, where he taught until 1989. The artist maintains his studio in Hedwigsburg, near Braunschweig.
