Nicholas Mukomberanwa is viewed as one of the greatest of the so-called Shona sculptors from Zimbabwe He was one of the leading members of the original group of artists assembled in the early sixties by the then Director of the National Gallery of Rhodesia (now National Gallery of Zimbabwe), Frank McEwen. This attractive work from circa 1980 was carved from white quartz with splashes of the purple lithium-based mineral lepidolite. It was featured in The Stone Sculptors of Zimbabwe, a major feature on Shona sculpture in Studio International in 1988
