작품 상세

Mary Magdalene. Polychromed terracotta sculpture. Andalusian School. 17th century. Luisa Roldán workshop, La Roldana (Seville, 1656 - Madrid, 1704) 30 x 33 x 33 cm. Mary Magdalene is depicted as a penitent, making reference to the period of 30 years that she spent in the cave at Sainte-Baume in France, after the Ascension of Christ. She is depicted in the typical way, half naked, covered with a blue serge cloth in an attitude of prayer, kneeling on some rocks and leaning in a penitent attitude. Large locks of her hair partially cover her body. Marvellous sculptural work, as can be especially appreciated in the saint’s face.
