Depicted as a Roman Soldier, raised on a later faux marble pedestal. 8 ft. 1 in. x 26 3/4 x 17 in. Note: St. Florian was a Roman army officer and firefighter born in present-day Austria who was executed for failing to enforce the laws that persecuted Christians during the Diocletianic Persecution. He was originally sentenced to be burned at the stake but Roman soldiers instead decided to kill him by drowning him in a river. He is the patron saint of firefighters and chimneysweeps, and he is invoked against fire, floods, and drowning.
