Sucy-en-Brie, Paris FRANCE , Exaltation de la fleur [Exaltation of the Flower], 1931, an Art Déco uniface silver plaque by P. Turin, two females dressed in antique garments vis-à-vis, mutually admiring the lotus flowers they hold, back named (24 Mars 1912 1937, à Mr Pierre Perreau Pradier, Député, Ancient Sous-Secrétaire d’Etat, Angeli, Bosquet, Claris, Coudor, Despoisse, Herfray, Madeleine Perreau Pradier, Jean Perreau Pradier, Riboulot), edge impressed 2 argent and cornucopia, 87 x 80mm, 328.66g (CGMP p.383; cf . Baldwin 81, 3549; cf . iNumis Apr. 2013, 216). Very fine, obverse toned, extremely rare in silver; with fitted green felt-backed holder for display £400-£500 --- Provenance: Bt J. Lis July 2007. Pierre Perreau-Pradier (1885-1969), b. Auxerre, lawyer and politician, Under-Secretary of State to the Presidency of the Council, November 1934 to June 1935; André-Louis-Victor Despoisse (1884-1952), Ministère d’Agriculture; Jean-François-Pierre Perreau-Pradier (1911-81), lawyer, chief of staff to his father, 1934-5, then successively Préfet of Drôme, Vendée and Réunion, 1949-63, his wife Madeleine Perreu-Pradier (1913-2003). See Silich III, 1195. The image is taken from a famous stele from Pharsale (Thessalie), c. 470 BC, acquired by the Louvre in 1863. It has been suggested that the figures are the goddesses Demeter and her daughter Persephone
