Lausanne, moved to France 1881 FRANCE , Les attrapeurs d'oiseaux [The Bird Catchers], c . 1900, a large uniface cast bronze plaque by T.-A. Steinlen, two males standing to left by the wall of a building, one with a notable abdominal distension, using baited rods to catch birds, a third male, kneeling to right, places a bird in a bag, the whole scene watched by a female from an upper window, 255 x 220mm, 1,862.44g. Extremely fine and attractively patinated, decorative, very rare £150-£200 --- Provenance: Baldwin Auction, 11 February 2006, lot 428. The artist, based in Montmartre, was an Art Nouveau printmaker, illustrator, painter and sculptor best known for his prolific portfolio of cat depictions (see Silich II, 826)
