Pair of 19th century graphite on paper drawings, with crisp detail and exceptional shading. Alfred de Dreux, a French historical and portrait painter, was born in Paris in 1810. He was the son of the architect Pierre Anne De Dreux, and nephew of P. J. De Dreux-Dorcy. He studied under Léon Cogniet, and painted animals as well as portraits. He died in Paris in 1860. Matted on acid-free paper and framed in gilt oak behind glass. Some foxing. Image sizes are approximately 7.25" x 8.75", frames 14.5" x 17.5". Shipping weight is about 7 pounds.
