작품 상세
ATTRIBUTED TO GIOVANNI BATTISTA CIPRIANI (Italian, 1727-1785) PENCIL STUDY FOR "CORIOLANUS" pencil on paper; additional sketch on verso; inscribed Coll. Mrs. E.E. James / 16.5.62 N. 243, verso; image: 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 in., sheet: 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 in. Other Notes: This pencil sketch appears to be the study for Cipriani's illustration of the Shakespearean tragedy Coriolanus, after the life of Roman leader Caius Marcius Coriolanus (5th century BC). Cipriani's final illustration was turned into an engraving by Richard Earlom (English, 1743-1822) and published by John & Josiah Boydell in 1789.
