Her head is tilted backwards, her eyes are closed. Corinth outlines the figure with precise, dynamic strokes. The head and upper body are rendered in a detail manner whereas the drawing starts dissolving in the area of the lower half of the body. The verso bears a pencil drawing of a female nude. This work comprises two equally fine drawings from the multifaceted oeuvre of the German painter. The drawing is signed lower right 'Lovis Corinth' and dated in pencil '1895'. The sheet is mounted under a mat at the top margin. The paper shows smaller losses and tears along the edges as well as handling creases and stains to the center left margin. The sheet size is 44 x 29 cm. Lovis Corinth (1858-1925) Lovis Corinth (born Franz Heinrich Louis Corinth) was one of the most eminent and influential German Impressionists. His later works are often considered a combination of Impressionism and Expressionism. Corinth studied at the Königsberg art academy and was a student of Otto Günther. Corinth focused on painting portraits and landscapes, creating over thousand paintings, watercolor drawings and prints. In addition he wrote books and essays for several art magazines. Many of Corinth's works can be found in national and international galleries and museums today, a large part of his oeuvre is privately owned.
