The sheet is overall slightly toned, a little stronger in the margins. Occasionally small foxing. Slight marginal defects, at the bottom the center small paper loss and tiny tear. Otherwise overall good condition according to its age. The sheet dimensions are 24.8 x 33.8 cm, the frame dimensions 41 x 48.5 cm. Ludwig von Hofmann (1861-1945) Born in Darmstadt, Ludwig von Hofmann completed his artistic training at the art academies of Dresden, Karlsruhe and Paris. Towards the end of the 1880s, he moved to Paris, where he attended the Académie Julian. Since 1890 Hofmann lived in Berlin, where he became part of the artists’ circles around Corinth, Liebermann and Klinger. Besides, he was involved in the Berlin Secession. From 1894 to 1900, he spent some time in Rome and in his villa in Fiesole. Since 1895, he was a member of the ‘Pan’ magazine, and since 1898 a member of the ‘Berliner Secession’. In 1903, he became a professor at the Weimarer Kunstschule. From 1916 to 1931, he was also a professor at the Kunstakademie in Dresden.
